Bristol Waste directors living it up, now company investigated for fraud
After six months of pursuing a freedom of information request, Bristol Waste had to finally hand over their managing director expenses.
The receipts revealed quite lavish dining on the public’s dime.
A payment of £640.87 was listed as “Directors accommodation & meal for meeting”, on 16 November 2021. The payments included accommodation plus dinner and drinks at three different restaurants and bars at the Bristol Hotel.
In May 2022, another lunch receipt, for £326, shows a directors lunch that included three £30+ steaks, a £26 bottle of wine, a deluxe Martini (£8.25), an Amaretto Disaronno (£4.10), a Bailey's (£5.15), a glass of pinot grigio (£7.70), one double Glenmorangie (£4.95), a double Courvoisier (£6.20), and two double twelve year old Balvenies (£16.10).
The managing director of Bristol Waste at the time was Anthony Lawless. He resigned two months after the lavish £326 meal at the Marriott after four years as MD.
In March 2023, it was announced that Avonmouth Household Reuse & Recycling Centre is under police investigation for fraud.
A Bristol Waste spokesperson said: “Back in 2020 we became aware of possible fraudulent activity within one of our depots.
“Immediate action was taken, and all evidence was submitted to the police. The case is currently under a live police investigation.”
It is not known whether the opulent dining paid for by the public is part of the investigation.
