A car crashed, with a huge bang, into scaffolding last night on Canons Way.
The driver managed to lead it onto the footpath and the wood and metal poles fell over the roof and front window leaving them crushed and shattered, respectively. A guy in a pink hoody came out holding his head. A couple of hours later, after being checked out by an ambulance, he was still standing so hopefully he is ok.
Accidents happen, right? But this building has been hit over three times by lorries over the past couple of years. The last time it was hit was at the beginning of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta in 2022. That was almost 10 months ago. This side of the building is run by Sovereign as social housing. It took months for anything to be done other than to seal the front door, which people still occasionally used.
The glass canopy was shattered and ready to fall on passersby, and there are quire a few children who live in that building. It held on for a while but finally the glass was taken down and scaffolding was put up in winter in preparation for a replacement.
Now it’s down again.
